How to: parallel character lcd screen -lcd smartie – powerstrip / crystalfontz

Hi,

I’m going to explain in a little more about how to add a character lcd screen to your computer with a parallel cable.

First things first, what do you need?

- A parallel cable
– A LCD matrix screen (mine is a crystalfontz CFAH2004A-RGB-JP, 2×40, red backlight)
– 10K and 100Ohm potentiometer
– A flat IDE cable (or a lot of cable which will make a mess of it)
– Solder iron and multimeter for test purposes

The cable:
Strip both the flat cable and the parallel cable so they are clean to solder

The scheme:
Solder everything folowing this scheme

It should be like this:

Lcd smartie config:

The results:

I’m using this screen for a server, so I only have the cpu/hdd/ram and network configured.
You can see my config at http://benwake.com/upload/lcd_smartie_eigen_config.rar
